Paste Pinterest pins straight into your collage or moodboard

For a long time, pasting a Pinterest pin link into PasteCollage got you a hint telling you to go and copy the image address instead. That was our bug, not Pinterest's, and it's fixed: paste a pin link and the pin's image lands on your canvas.

How to paste a pin

On your phone, open the pin and copy its link from the share menu. On desktop, copy it from the address bar.
In PasteCollage, click Add Image and paste the link into the Paste image URL box, or just press Ctrl/Cmd+V on the canvas.
The pin's image appears, ready to move, scale, and layer.

No download, no upload, no hunting for the i.pinimg.com address. It works with any pinterest.com link, including regional ones such as fr.pinterest.com.

While we were in there, we also fixed image search links: paste a Google Images result link (the long google.com/imgres one) or a Bing image result link and you get the actual image, not an error.

What was going wrong

When you paste a page link rather than an image, PasteCollage reads the page for its preview image, the same tag messaging apps use to show a link preview. Pinterest puts that tag about a megabyte into the page, and we stopped reading at half a megabyte. Nothing was blocking us; we simply gave up too early.

Almost three quarters of the failed links we saw over the last two months were Pinterest pins, and some people retried the same pin several times. Sorry about that.

What still won't import

Deleted pins. The page no longer has an image. You'll see a hint with the two ways around it: on a phone, open the pin, tap Download image, then use Upload file; on desktop, right-click the photo, choose Copy image address, and paste that.
Board pages and /ideas/ pages. They are collections, not a single image. Paste an individual pin instead.
A plain Google search results page. Open a result first, then copy its link.

A few things worth knowing

You get the 736 pixel wide version, the same size Pinterest hands to link previews. That is plenty for a moodboard or a social-size collage. On desktop you can also drag the image itself from the Pinterest tab onto the canvas.
Pasted links go through our proxy. Images may be cached at Cloudflare's edge for up to an hour, and our usage telemetry records where the link pointed (its host, path, and type), not the full link. Details are in the privacy policy.
